WHAT was Liverpool like before we all had mobile phones, iPods and iPads and all manner of high-tech gadgets to photograph the world around us? Even schoolchildren today capture life in a way many adults then often couldn't.
"You went out to experience things, you didn"t take pictures, how could you?" recalls . Billy Butler, Radio Merseyside's legendary DJ. "Nobody had a camera and besides when you took the pictures, you couldn't afford to get them developed." So we made do - as Scousers say - with what he had ... but someone, somewhere had a camera (the posh kids, usually). And Liverpool Daily Post and ECHO photographers took images that will last a lifetime to accompany the stories in the paper. Our new publication Liverpool Then (Volume 2 - number 1 sold out) is full of snapshots of local history.See the full content of this document
