IT is bidding to become the first school to offer a GCSE in sign language, older pupils are so good they teach it to new starters, yet not one of its 866 pupils are deaf.

But that is exactly the reason why the school is embracing British Sign Language (BSL).

The school's business and enterprise co-ordinator Liz Roberts said: "It all started when we had a visit fromtheMerseyside Society for Deaf People. We are always looking for enterprising opportunities and with the sign language it really struck a chord."
