TIM HENMAN sailed into a two-set lead as his 2004 Grand Slam campaign got underway against Frenchman JeanRene Lisnard in spitting rain at Melbourne Park. The British number one, seeded 11,had only met Lisnard once before, on the hard courts at Adelaide four years ago and Henman ran out winner on that occasion in three sets.

He entered the Australian Open boasting impressive form after a win at the Paris Masters in October and a semi-final appearance in Doha last week when his displays hinted at another possible title.
