YOU, the voters, will soon pass your judgment on the Budget, and much else. The polls report that most of us do not think that drastic cuts in the Government's Budget are necessary. The gaping hole in the public accounts can be bridged by a judicious programme of "efficiencies".

This is the first time when what I believe, and the views of most people with whom I talk, contrasts with the polls. What is going on? Most people I talk with are genuinely perplexed. They hear huge totals bandied about of what needs to be borrowed to make ends meet. But the Government goes on announcing new spending initiatives.
