THE decision by the Royal College of Nursing to drop its opposition to medically assisted suicide will be welcomed by the 74% of people who say in the latest poll that doctors should be allowed to help terminally ill patients end their lives.
Changing the law requires political action. To date the Liberal Democrats are the only party publicly to advocate such a change, while making clear that every MP shall be entitled to vote in accordance with their conscience. But now that more than 100 people from Britain have made the journey to Switzerland to seek help from Dignitas to die in peace it is surely time that all parties put the issue on their political agenda.See the full content of this document
