A ROUTINE food hygiene inspection at a popular summer cafe found rat droppings, mouldy bread and signs of food contamination, a court heard.

Inspectors also found floors littered with food debris, dirty preparation surfaces and a lack of cleaning facilities for staff when they visited the Pleasureland Beach Cafe Bar in Southport in June.
