Summary
In association with THE end of the reign of the world"s most famous ship, former Cunard Line flagship RMS Queen Elizabeth 2, 77,327 gross tons, came to an end in 2008 and included one final duty. It fell to this great ship, last of the line built at John Brown & Co, Clydebank, to open the Liverpool Cruise Liner Ter minal.
She first came to Liverpool in 1990, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Cunard Line. This fulfilled a duty overlooked by her two illustrious predecessors, the first Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Sadly, all good things come to an end and after more than 40 years service, QE2 had exceeded RMS Aquitania, of 1914, as the longest operating Cunard liner. Now this magnificent final swell of British shipbuilders" art is laid-up in Dubai, a victim of that country"s economic crisis, her future uncertain.See the full content of this document
