IT is widely held that trees have many benefits. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, providing a home for a range of wildlife and reducing pollution, it is recognised that they have the potential to store carbon dioxide, thereby offsetting some of that released by many modern day activities.

Children are encouraged to plant trees as a contribution to the future. It is therefore regrettable that in Liverpool, there is presently a short-sighted approach in this area.
