GARY O'Neill of the Wirral (ECHO Letters, Dec 11) suggests people "try to say slavery never came to Liverpool.Every local school should teach about the impact that slave traders had upon the region's economy in the 1750-1807 period.

But what evidence is there that slavery itself (i.e. slaves) was brought to Liverpool? The Atlantic trade system took captured African slaves to Brazil, the West Indies, and the US, not to Liverpool.
