IT'S great fun being the new voice of Merseyrail and doing all those announcements about feet on seats and penalty fares Now, in an attempt to rid us of an age where passengers still 'alight from' (instead of get off) trains; 'purchase' (instead of buy) tickets, and where the trains (and not the journeys) still 'terminate,' I turn my attention to the delights of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, which runs the ferry service between Liverpool and Douglas.

They have a fantastic new catamaran, the Manannan. But ashore, in a Scouse accent you could cut with a knife, a request for passengers to "come forward for EMBARKTION." Might that be embarkation (ie going on board)? A voice from below decks opines: "Oh you are mean, Riley. The same person probably multi-tasks" (another phrase on my hit list for office robots).
