FORMER Brookside actor Brian Regan acted as the getaway driver in a hit that saw a dad-of-one shot outside a Liverpool pub, a court was told.

Regan, who played Terry Sullivan for 14 years in the long running city-based soap, is alleged to have been part of a gang who lured Iranian doorman Bahman Faraji to his death outside Aigburth's Belgrave pub in February.

At Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, the 53-year-old former actor went on trial accused of murder.

Regan, of St Mary's Road, Garston, was in the dock alongside alleged gunman Edward Heffey, 41, of Beloe Street, Dingle; Lee Dodson, 42, of Logfield Drive, Garston; and Simon Smart, 33, of Kylemore Way, Halewood.
