MERSEYSIDE councils have been given pounds 3.5m of government cash to repair potholes caused by the winter big freeze.

But city leaders and MPs described the sum as "pathetic" given the scale of the recent cuts which have wiped up to pounds 200m off the region's local authority budgets.
