A MURDER investigation was launched today after a man was battered to death in his own home.

Craig McGowan was found by his mum who called at his house in Dursley, Whiston, at around 10.45am yesterday. The 35- year- old Dwas lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Mr McGowan was taken to Whiston hospital by ambulance where doctors worked in vain to save him. He was pronounced dead at 2.15am today. Police believe the fatal attack happened sometime between around 11pm on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday. Yesterday detectives arrested a man and woman on suspicion of murder.
