I MUST thank Liverpool's new Labour administration for re- launching the previous administration's Liverpool Apprentice initiative. Readers may remember its inclusion in March 2010's City Magazine. It's a great idea and exactly the type of project we need to create new apprentices and long term skilled jobs.

What is new and surprising is the increased cost and use of an outside delivery body. Apparently it's going to cost a whopping pounds 1m - that's pounds 10,000 for every apprentice created! That figure wasn't in the budget approved by the Town Hall this year. Therefore, we tax payers need to hold the new administration to account and ask where this massive increase has come from, how can we afford it and what other services are being affected by apparently diverting the pounds 1m into an outside body.
