MICHAEL VAUGHAN had two reasons for renewed optimism today - his own batting form, and England pace bowler James Anderson's well- being.

Vaughan, due to captain his country again in the first Test against India at Lord's next week, made a battling 74 yesterday out of LV Division One leaders Yorkshire's 254 for six in the rain- ruined Roses match at Old Trafford.
