ONE of the newspapers reports that the government is thinking of having the police do their job the way it was done in the 1950s.

I was a teenager in the 50s and we had regular beat bobbies. If we ever stepped out of line they threatened you, not with the courts, but with your parents because, would you believe, they were on the side of the law.
