Not surprising, then, that the network has now turned to another feted comedic force to put bums on seats as it screens the feature-length programme Ricky Gervais Live: Animals, shot during the multi-Golden Globe winner's first stand-up tour.

Born in Reading, the funny man originally nurtured dreams of becoming a scientist and went to university to study biology. However, upon his arrival he had a change of heart and opted for philosophy instead.
