Flyers Flocking Back to City's Airport

LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport (JLA) has continued its recovery from last winter's passenger slump with relatively healthy passenger numbers for the summer. More than 1m people used the airport in July and August, with the months showing 6% and 7% falls respectively.

New City Base for Digi Team

DIGITAL agency Rippleffect has relocated to the centre of Liverpool, in a move which marks a new high point in its growth. The move to the City Tower, Old Hall Street, brings Rippleffect closer to owner Trinity Mirror and cements its position as the publisher"s flagship digital agency.

Westwood Ready for Matchplay ; Golf

LEE WESTWOOD, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer are all now confirmed starters in the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Spain in four weeks. The quartet qualify via the world rankings and join Paul Casey, Retief Goosen, Anthony Kim, Camilo Villegas, Robert Allenby, Jeev Milkha Singh and Scott Strange in the 16-man field at Finca Cortesin near Marbella.

Murray Eyeing Former Champ Elcock

MARTIN MURRAY has set his sights on former British champion Wayne Elcock as he closes in on a domestic title shot. The undefeated St Helens puncher earned rave reviews after his latest outing ended in a first round knockout.

Courtney has Cleverly Plan ; Fry Anxious to Take His Title Chance

BRITISH and Commonwealth light-heavyweight title challenger Courtney Fry says taking on Nathan Cleverly will be a walk in the park compared to dealing with some of the country"s most troubled youngsters. The Sydney Olympian will tackle Cleverly at Bethnal Green"s York Hall on October 9. And the 34-year-old says he will fulfil his potential on the night and snap the unbeaten record of Cleverly, one of the country"s brightest prospects.

Farmer Hangs Up His Gloves

SHAUN FARMER has announced his retirement from the ring. The 32-year-old light-middleweight made the decision to call time on his pro career following last weekend's stoppage loss against Lincoln's Kevin Hammond.

Keep Hands Clean ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

IN light of the recent outbreak of E coli at petting farms, some parents are understandably concerned about the risks to children from household pets. While the recently reported cases have been contracted from farm animals, E coli are part of the normal bacteria found in a pet's intestine. Pets may not show any symptoms but can pass on the bacteria to people - if good hygiene is not observed.

Cammell Laird Case Proves Past Is Another Country

SOME things about the national political scene and news agenda haven't changed in years. It's still the case, for example, that the leader of the Liberal Democrats has the cushiest/most pointless/most frustrating (depending on your point of view) job in the country - because, whatever he says or does, he's never going to find himself in the No. 10 hot seat.

Help Poor Students ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

WITH regard to the situation whereby students are going to be punished for going to university, by starting their working lives with huge debts. May I suggest that the banks which are owned by the long- suffering public, pay for the students' outgoings out of the bankers' bonus billions, as should industries like gas, water, electricity etc.

Sad at Shop Closure ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

YES, I share the local sadness at the closure of Tutill-Nicol, as a regular customer who admired the friendly and helpful staff and was impressed by the range of its wares. Only a week before it shut-down, one of the staff went out of her way to order a batch of cheap calendars I needed for a charity and phoned to say they'd arrived.

Bring Dock to Life ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

FOR many years I have considered that the Albert Dock has failed to achieve its potential. Just how many people, do you think, have stood at the railings and imagined it as a bustling and lively dockside, with all the accompanying sights, sounds and smells? I paid a visit to Chatham Historic Dockyard Museum some years ago and was amazed at how realistic the presentation of the boat-building was.

Bring Back Trams ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

I WAS reading in the Liverpool ECHO the other week about talks to set up a new tram network around the city. I think it would do the city good to have them around again.

Thanks for Your Care ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

IT is not hard to notice the very negative press that is so often associated with the present-day NHS nursing care. My mother has been a patient at Arrowe Park hospital on numerous occasions and in various departments on countless wards. Not all of these have been necessarily good examples of patient management.

Wealth of Talent ; You Say Email:Letters@Liverpoolecho.Co.Uk

I'VE just read the page on Ricky Tomlinson's heroes. He was right when he said the talent in Liverpool is second to none.
